The callous threat to Danny made D.J. grind her teeth, but she let it pass, not wanting to bring up her friend's name again and incite Rich's anger. "Why are you going to so much trouble? The picture Chris took won't prove anything against you. So you were talking to a guy in the holding cell? Big deal. Why chase us all over the state to kill us for something like that?" |

Rich started to laugh. He couldn't seem to stop. D.J. shifted to glance at Chris. He watched Rich like a tiger who'd just come upon a deer. His arm dropped away from her waist. He took a step forward. Rich stopped laughing and brought the gun back up. |
